Frequently Asked Questions
What is EMF shielding?
Ultrasone’s ULE-technology (PROline series) offers the lowest radiation of low frequency fields. Medical research has shown that magnetic field emissions can be hazardous to your health. The average magnetic field emission of headphones (without LE or ULE) is more than four times the maximum recommended levels. As Ultrasone’s philosophy is not only based on perfect sound but also on protecting your health we managed to develop a revolutionary MU-metal-shielding method. This patented and certified ULE-technology can significantly reduce risky magnetic field emissions up to 98%!
The ULE-technology is recommended by Technical Surveillance Organizations and Consumer Advice Centers with certified lowest magnetic field emissions.
What is the warranty and how do I go about getting my headphones repaired?
Two year warranty covering parts and labor. You need to contact Ultrasone of America to get and RMA number and instructions to send them back. We can also repair headphones that are out of warranty for a charge. Use our repair form.
Why can’t I find frequency response graphs on the site?
We choose not to make frequency response charts available on our site because the ways in which these charts are made is not standardized, so they can be misleading. Also since our headphones utilize the outer ear, everyone’s listening experience will be slightly different.
What is the difference between open and closed headphones?
The main difference between open and closed headphones is that open headphones are not hindered by resonance issues the closed headphones can suffer from. Open headphones generally sound fuller and more lifelike. Also open headphones will not get as hot as closed headphones as the allow air to circulate freely.

What is burn in?
All professional headphones require a burn-in period to make them sound better. During the period you are essentially breaking in the driver and allowing it to loosen up. Once the driver has been broken in, the headphone will sound more even and more like it is supposed to sound. See the individual headphone pages for recommended burn in times. Recommended times are the minimum burn-in times, more burn-in will improve the sound even more.
To burn-in your new Ultrasone's, plug them into the headphone jack of a sound source (stereo, cd player, tv, etc). Let them play continuously for the prescibed about of time according to the driver type. The times below are the minimum times and sound will improve with further use. See the individual headphone pages for driver type and more specific burn in times.
Minimum burn-in times:
Mylar- 8 hours
Gold- 16 hours
Titanium- 24 hours
